The Scheduled Worlds concept is an idea I came up with to solve many of the issues that are inherent in multiplayer games as presently constituted, etc.. The way it works is that each Felcraft World is scheduled to be up on certain days and times during the week. As the Felcraft Server grows it will become more and more likely that you will find a World with up-times that fit perfectly into your weekly schedule. This means that you can play on that World the entire time it is up. This is something I refer to as "temporal fidelity", the significance of which I will explain in answer to the next question. Why? Because playing a sandbox game like Minecraft in a World with lots of other people who are playing while you are playing and not playing while you are not playing is really really fun. Temporal is just a fancy word that means "of or relating to time", therefore, "temporal fidelity" simply refers to the degree to which the time players spend in a World syncs up with that World's time and other player's time. Here are some scenarios to help you visualize why high temporal fidelity is really great; -You are engaged in large scale faction warfare. Whether you are marching with an army across the World, fighting a massive battle, or participating in a siege, you don't need to worry about armies falling apart from people having to leave because everyone playing has scheduled out time from their lives to play. -You are traveling across the World, exploring, and admiring the kingdoms, cities, and towns built by your fellow players. Unlike on other Minecraft servers, players populate the cities and towns you find, standing guard on the walls, trading in the marketplaces, and working in the fields. Because everyone plays at the same time. -You are doing whatever it is you like to do in Minecraft with other people. No matter what it is, when your World's scheduled up-time comes to an end, you know that at your World's next up-time you can keep playing from right where you left off. Because everyone will begin playing again at exactly the same time that you do. When? Check out the Worlds Page for a list of all Felcraft Worlds and their weekly schedules. |
